Working out is a great way to stay fit and healthy. You have your routine down, but what should you put in your gym bag? Check out the list below for some ideas.
1. A Phone and Your Valuables
Make sure to take valuables, like your keys and phone, into the gym, and have them on you as you work out. Your phone can double as a heart rate monitor, fitness tracker, clock and music player. Make a playlist of songs you want to groove to and get moving. Bring along some headphones as well so you can blast the tunes in shared spaces.
2. Exercise Equipment
Depending on your workouts, bring pieces of equipment that you need, whether that is small weights, exercise bands, a jump rope, balls, a yoga mat or something else. Then, you can use what the gym offers to get the best workout. Bring a towel to wipe down equipment or your body after rigorous training periods.
3. Healthy Snacks
There is nothing worse than feeling hungry before, during or after a workout. Avoid sudden feelings of hunger by packing healthy, workout-fueling snacks to help you power through. Try a protein smoothie, granola bar, banana and peanut butter or trail mix. Do not forget a full water bottle to keep yourself hydrated.
4. Workout Gear
Dress for success with the right workout gear. Choose clothes that are not only comfortable and fit you well, but ones that you like. For swimming, a suit, goggles and flip flops are musts. For other workouts, you might need sneakers, leggings, sports shorts, light tank tops or shirts. Plan your workout beforehand to be sure you have the right outfit in your bag. Bring a sweater or jacket to wear afterwards.
Take a moment to stash some accessories in your bag before you head out the door. Headbands or hair ties keep medium or long hair out of your face. Extra socks are also nice to have to change into. If you are working out outside, bring a hat and or sunglasses.
Keep a well-stocked toiletry kit in your bag with travel-sized essentials. Bring regular or dry shampoo, cleanser, deodorant, face wipes, nail clippers and filers, antibacterial wipes, a brush and, if you want, some simple makeup to put on post workout. A first aid kit is also something that is beneficial to carry with you. Depending on your needs, band aids, tweezers, gauze, hydrocortisone, Bacitracin, a thermometer and extra glasses or contact lens are good things to include. Better safe than sorry!
The next time you hit the gym, put these six things in your bag to crush your workouts and meet your fitness goals.
