How to Keep Your Plastic e-juice Bottles in Good Condition

A good collection of e-juice bottles is an excellent tool for making your DIY e-juice. When it comes to storing e-liquids, many people prefer glass bottles over plastic ones. According to them, the juice assumes the plastic-like taste after steeping for a few weeks- meaning the plastic is a bit degrading. This is however not true. Plastic bottles shouldn’t have any effect on the efficacy or taste of your e-juice.

The secret is to ensure you select HDPE and LDPE plastics. The stains that are seen after emptying the plastic do not in any way mean that the plastic is breaking down. It simply means it has absorbed a bit of the colored juice onto its pores. Remember, plastic is porous/permeable, it’s bound to absorb some juice, and even give off some fumes.

So, how do take care of your plastic e-juice bottles?

Just like you would do with other drinking containers, plastic bottles should always be cleaned between uses. Naturally, plastics are extremely sanitary materials, and it is unlikely that plastic bottles will harbor bacteria than the rest of the drinking or packaging containers. Bacteria thrives in warm, moist environments and this can be on virtually any drinking container including serving pitchers, glasses, coffee mugs, etc.

The procedure for cleaning your e-juice plastics

  1. Blast the plastics with hot water to remove residues
  2. Soak them in a bath of slightly warm, soapy water for a few hours. Use a mild detergent like dawn and add a little bit of white vinegar
  3. Rinse with tap water. You can also soak them for a little bit longer in the tap water
  4. Finally, soak them in a bath of distilled water
  5. Then, keep them in the freezer for a few weeks.

The result will be pristine bottles without residual odor, ready for another round.

You can also use the denture cleaning tablets to clean your e-juice DIY bottles. Your plastic bottles will come out looking spotless and smell nothing on them. This works well even on bottles with intense flavors!

Conclusion

Proper plastics are excellent for storing e-juices for various mechanical as well as safety reasons. There is nothing that any responsible juicer will put in an e-juice to make it “leach” or breakdown anything from the LDPE/HDPE bottles. Quality plastics bought from a trusted dealer are as safe as standard glass from a reliable distributor. Consumers should, however, clean their e-juice plastics using hot soapy water and then dry them thoroughly after every use. Bottles that are specifically designed for prolonged reuse are always made with wider openings to allow users to use a cleaning instrument and evenly dry them easily.
